How GPA is calculated

GPA is a weighted average too, except credits are the weights. A 4-credit class moves your GPA more than a 1-credit class.

The formula

GPA = Total grade points ÷ Total credits

For each class, multiply its credits by the points for your letter grade. An A- in a 3-credit class gives you 3 × 3.7, or 11.1 grade points.

Why it gets harder to move

With 60 credits behind you, 15 new credits make up only a fifth of the total. Early semesters move your GPA the most.
