How weighted grades work

In a weighted class, each category counts for a set share of your grade. Multiply each score by its weight, then add the results.

An example

Homework is 20% and you have a 95. The midterm is 30% and you have a 75. So far, those categories make up 50% of your grade.

(95 × 20 + 75 × 30) ÷ 50 = 83

Your current grade is 83. You can't just average 95 and 75, because that gives 85 and ignores the midterm's bigger weight.

Why one quiz barely moves it

If quizzes are 10% of your grade and there are 10 quizzes, each quiz is worth 1%. A 50 on one quiz costs you at most half a point on your final grade.
